Shinerama

Date Of Origin: 1990

Status: ACTIVE

Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary charity event which supports Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults, with an estimation that 1 in 3 600 babies born in Canada are born with CF. CF mainly affects the digestive system and lungs, however its effects vary in severity from person to person. Unfortunately, persistent infections in the lungs, destruction of the lungs, and loss of lung function eventually lead to death in the majority of people living with CF.

ryEng participates in Shinerama every year, running a carnival-like day on the Friday of Frosh week. All funds raised during Shinerama go towards research for a cure or control for Cystic Fibrosis, as well as for the care of those living with Cystic Fibrosis. Shinerama was introduced to ryEng at frosh in 1990. Since 1990, Ryerson has raised over $133 000 for CF Canada!
